This weekend we went to fish some Delayed Harvest water in Ashe County, NC. Helton Creek fished very well despite extremely low, clear water conditions. We went and fished it on Saturday (12/3/16) from about 10:30-2:30. We caught roughly 40 fish in four hours. It was pretty crowded; most deep holes with good current were already being fished by several other anglers. So we decided to look for some other small holes that might have been overlooked. We found the most success fishing 1-2 foot deep runs that were surrounded by much shallower water. We fished an indicator rig with two flies throughout the entire day. The majority of all the fish we caught were on a pink squirmy wormy however we did catch several fish on a size 20 copper john and a size 12 micro nuke egg.
